The Second Commandment and Scripture References

This is the second commandment, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image."

Deuteronomy 4:16-18 "...lest you act corruptly and make for yourself a carved image in the form of any figure: the likeness of any male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on earth, or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, or the likeness of any fish that is in the water beneath of the earth."(NKJV)

The First Commandment and Scripture References

In the next several posts I want to write verses that support each of the Commandments.

This is the first of the Ten Commandments, "You shall not have any other gods before me.

Little children, keep yourself from idols. 1 John 5:21 (NKJV)

YOU MIGHT BE A CHRISTIAN IF.......

#1 ...you were raised in a church?

#2 ...your mom or dad is a Christian?

#3 ...you read the Holy Bible?

#4 ...you REPEATED a simple prayer?

#5 ...you are a good person?

NONE OF THE ABOVE!

All these things are good, but you have to have the Holy Spirit inside you to be a Christian.

LORD, LORD.......

One of my favorite Christian videos.......

My favorite verse & more......

John 3:16 has been my favorite verse since I was real little. Even people who aren't Christians know this verse. You sometimes see somebody holding it up on a sign at ball games or see it on a sign at a church. Maybe you've seen it in someone's yard. But really this verse & the next 2 verses say it all.......

(16)For God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (17)For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (18)He who believes is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the Only Begotten Son of God.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS FROM A KID'S PERSPECTIVE

#1 You shall have NO other gods before me.

How much time do you spend playing video games or watching t.v.? Now, how much time do you spend reading the Bible or talking to Jesus through prayer? If you spend more time on games or t.v. (or another activity), you have put them before God.

#2 You shall not make for yourself any graven image.

Ever said, "MY god wouldn't do this or do that?" Do you have YOUR OWN idea of who God is? You've made a graven image of God. To know the one true God, read the Bible & pray to Him.

#3 Do not take the Lord's name in vain.

Have you ever said "oh my god" or ''oh my lord?'' Some people use God's name as a curse word. Only say God's name with respect.

#4 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

In 6 days God created the Universe & those that dwelled on the Earth. On the 7th day, He rested. He expects us to follow His example. Pray & do your very best everyday. On the Sabbath or seventh day, rest, read your Bible, spend time with friends & family, enjoy all that God created for us!

#5 Honor thy father and thy mother.

Do you ever back talk or disobey your parents? Have you ever dissed your mom or dad? That is a sin! If you do this, repent & ask God to forgive you. Tell your parents you are sorry.

#6 Thou shall not kill.

Have you ever hated someone or bullied someone? To God that is "killing in your heart." To hurt someone by being hateful you are killing them emotionally and mentally.

#7 Thou shall not commit adultery.

If you are married & you look at another man or woman with lust you have committed adultery. Mom & dad will explain this one!

#8 Thou shall not steal.

Stolen a pencil? Stolen a car? No matter what something is worth, if you take something without permission......IT IS STEALING!

#9 Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

First, of all, who is your neighbor? That's everyone around you. Have you ever lied about someone or spread a rumor? That is "bearing false witness," and it is wrong.

#10 Thou shall not covet.

Sometimes we wish we had something that belonged to someone else. We shouldn't want what someone else has. We should want the best for them.

I'm not perfect, either. I break the commandments now & then. The important thing is to try your best to obey every one of them. If you break one, you've broken them all because each one is just as important as the other.

Imagine you're a mountain climber. You are on the side of the tallest mountain hanging by a safety chain. You can hear a link breaking! Is it the 3rd one? Is it the 8th one? Maybe, it's the 10th one? It doesn't matter!
